Master's Program

In the winter of 2000, the Club made the decision to embark on a plan to establish a Master's Rowing Program. The intent of this plan was two-fold. First, to introduce the sport of rowing to the Adult members of the community, and second to build a depth of knowledge, experience and skills to allow the club to draw on these member to ensure the future of the Club.

The Master's program currently has two older Vespoli Eights and one Four+ available. The use of these boats is limited to members in good standing of LHRC. The Master's Rowing Program Co-ordinator is in charge of establishing the schedule of boats during the week. The program attempts to schedule 'set' boats during the week. On the weekend seats are assigned on a first come first served basis.

Spring

Rowing starts in the spring, as soon as the ice is off Bantam Lake and the docks have been put out. This typically occurs around the first week of April. Though in 2006 we were rowing by the last week of March.

Rowing Times: Monday - Friday - On the water at 5:30 am (Please arrive at the boathouse by 5:15 am)

Summer

In the summer session the focus has traditionally been on recreational rowing. The Master's program runs a a couple of learn to row weekend sessions. These sessions are a concentrated experience, focusing on familiarizing new rowers with the basic concepts of rowing.

Since club members summer schedules vary, the Program attempts to maintain a flexibility in the schedule, while trying to meet the needs of all the club members. If there is sufficient interest the boathouse will be kept open to allow club members to have a later morning start.

Rowing Times: Monday - Friday - On the water at 5:30 am (Please arrive at the boathouse by 5:15 am)

Fall

With the onset of Fall, come shorter days and the Fall Head Race Season. The club usually fields a men's and women's boat 3 to 4 regatta's. In the past the club has participated in the Riverfront Recapture on the Connecticut River in Hartford, the Head of the Housatonic, the Head of the Connecticut and the Head of the Fish.

The on the water season, usually finishes up around the first week of November. Though this is dictated by the weather, and the speed of the approaching winter.

Winter

Once winter arrives we move indoors and start erg'ing. The club owns a dozen Concept 2 Erg's and these are housed at the Litchfield Parks & Rec Department Gym. Use of the erg's is open to any club member. The published erg'ing times are listed below, though it does not require a great deal of arm twisting to add additional erg'ing times.

Erg'ing Time: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - 5:30 am, Saturday - 6:30 am.
